Military-specific laws can impact your divorce. We can help.
For instance, we are experienced in laws, such as Servicemembers Civil Relief Act and Uniformed Services Former Spouses' Protection Act (USFSPA), which often apply to service members and military families.
Moreover, the military lifestyle and demands placed on service members and their families may have legal implications. For example, the need to make PCS moves may bring up jurisdictional issues. Military members are also subject to deployment with little, if any, notice. Therefore, parenting plans should take into account this constraint.
Our attorneys understand the complexities of military divorce.
As another consideration, one of the most important benefits of military service is the retirement entitlement. Military retirement pay is marital property and, as such, is subject to division. Division of military retired pay is complex and requires evaluation of the various compensation plans and qualified deductions for which the service member may be eligible, along with the applicable legislation and case law.
In order to divide military retirement pay, Colorado courts have devised a specific formula. This formula, called the Hunt formula (or sometimes referred to as the Hunt/Gallo formula or the coverture formula) takes into consideration the length of a spouse's military service and the years of marriage that overlapped with the years of military service. If there is perfect overlap between the two, the other spouse is entitled to half of the military retired pay minus any qualified deductions.
Many Colorado Springs attorneys can help with family law, but the military divorce lawyers of Travis Law Group understand the complexities of military law and its impact on divorce. They are former JAG attorneys with experience in legal assistance and military family matters.

Satisfied Client Stories
I cannot recommend Rich and his team enough. The time, effort, thought, and SOUL that he put into our case - I will never be able to properly thank him. We have worked with Rich for approximately 8 years now. We unfortunately did not get our intended outcome, at no fault of Rich's - sometimes the judge's just don't or can't see it, and I honestly don't think it would've been as strong of a shot as it was without Rich and Marissa, and Megan and Chandler. Brilliant minds full of wit and passion with a blazing fire inside each of them for fighting for parents rights. Rich was our last chance at saving our son, and while the justice system failed our son, Rich stood by us and fought valiantly for his best interests and for our family, when no one else would or could. And Rich's heart broke alongside ours when we lost, but he also immediately resorted to future strategy and gave us all our options. He never lied to us, or inflated our chances. He pushed us when he knew we could do more, and he validated us when he knew we'd done all we could. He sympathized with us, but he was also honest and real about the situation, which is a careful but necessary line to be able to walk in these kinds of cases. If you're fighting for your family, for your kids…it's the most important fight of your life and you need someone like Rich on your side during a time like this. I could write a book on how admirable and honorable Rich is as an attorney, and maybe I will write a book about all of this one day, but I will leave you with this last bit: you will not regret hiring Rich. I would stake my family on it."
I had the best experience working with Mr. Travis and his team. From the moment I walked into their office, I felt like family. They are not your typical law firm - they genuinely care about their clients. Mr. Travis is a rockstar lawyer who will go to bat for you. He knows the law inside out and fights hard for your rights. I felt so supported knowing he was in my corner. But what really stood out to me was how friendly and caring everyone on the team is. They made me feel comfortable and listened to my concerns. It's rare to find such a perfect blend of professionalism and personal touch. Communication was excellent too. They kept me informed every step of the way and were always there to answer my questions. I felt like a priority, not just another case. If you need legal help, I highly recommend Mr. Travis and his team. They are the best in the business and genuinely care about their clients. Thanks, Mr. Travis, for everything you and your amazing team did for me.
The law firm of Rich Travis, Law was absolutely phenomenal in their preparation and execution of legal matters. Faced with a very challenging divorce proceedings, Counselor Travis and his paralegal Marissa were not just terrific in preparing the legal case, but were magnificent in preparing their client and reducing his anxiety prior to the court hearing. This team is excellent, and advantaged their client in multiple ways.
Mr. Travis and Megan heard my concerns regarding my divorce and presented them to court in a very professional manner. I would utilize them again if ever I need legal council. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Worth every penny.
The Travis Law Group is excellent. Mr. Travis and Donna handled my divorce case with integrity, competently, and presented the truth. The court and judge agreed with our position and my case was settled to my satisfaction. The Travis Law Group is to be commended for their due diligence and expertise. I have faith in our legal system based on their superior work and expertise. Travis Law has my deepest respect and appreciation for a job well done. Thank you.
